Your perfect classroom decor theme based on Zodiac signs
I'm so excited to share this fun twist on classroom decorating that's been lighting up my social media feeds! What if I told you that the stars could help guide...
I’m a big advocate for calm classrooms. Students are bombarded with stimuli from various sources every day, so it’s important that in the classroom, they’re able to listen and learn without distraction.
And it’s not just good for students. Have you ever tried teaching in a chaotic environment? It always makes things that much more difficult and can really make you feel frazzled.
Here’s why calm classrooms are so important, along with some practical tips on how to create your own!
So, what is the purpose of a calm classroom? Well, there are quite a few!
When the environment is orderly and serene, your little learners will feel more at ease. A tranquil atmosphere will also help them relax and concentrate better!
In a calm classroom, distractions are minimized, allowing students to focus on what’s in front of them. Getting rid of clutter and excessive noise also helps improve their concentration.
A peaceful classroom environment encourages positive behavior and interactions between your little learners. When they feel calm, they are more likely to be respectful and cooperative - something every teacher wants.
Little learners in calm classrooms tend to perform better academically, thanks to their reduced stress levels and increased focus, which contributes to better information retention and problem-solving skills.
A relaxed environment supports the development of critical thinking skills and creativity, as your little learners will feel more comfortable expressing their ideas and exploring new concepts.
Feeling as though their classroom is a safe space, where everyone around them is also calm, will help your little learners regulate their emotions. This is important for both academic success and overall well-being and resilience!
You may be wondering, “What does a calm classroom look like, and how do I set one up?” Well, if that’s the case, here are my top tips for creating one of your own.
It should go without saying that keeping your classroom organized and clutter-free will help to foster a calm classroom environment. After all, there can be no calm in chaos! Use storage solutions to keep things out of sight when not in use, and label everything so you and your little learners know where they are (meaning far fewer “Miss, I can’t find this!” meltdowns).
Bringing elements of nature into the classroom – such as plants, natural light and nature-themed decor – automatically has a calming effect on the space and improves its overall ambience. Transform your classroom into a peaceful retreat with our modern botanical, Australiana, modern ocean, cute sea life, modern jungle or boho plants-themed classroom decor!
Choose calm classroom colors that promote relaxation, such as blues, greens, neutrals and pastels. These colors can significantly influence your little learners’ moods, making them feel more at ease. Opt for soft lighting options where possible, such as lamps and string lights. But if you can’t avoid harsh fluorescent overhead lighting, set up a separate section of the classroom that’s out of the glare – more on this in a sec!
I love this handy tool for keeping classrooms calm and focused. By providing a clear visual cue, the voice level display empowers our little learners to self-regulate their volume, creating a quieter and more productive environment.
It’s amazing to see how quickly children respond to these cues, learning to be more mindful of their surroundings and considerate of their classmates. This simple yet effective tool makes a big difference in fostering a respectful and engaging atmosphere where everyone can thrive!
Designate specific areas in the classroom where students can go to relax and decompress. After classroom calm corner ideas? Include comfortable seating, soft lighting, calming activities and sensory tools to help your little learners self-soothe. You can also put up calming posters for classrooms to decorate these spaces, providing visual reminders of relaxation techniques and positive affirmations.
Integrate mindfulness practices into your daily classroom routine. Start the day with a minute of deep breathing or guided meditation, and encourage students to take short breaks for mindfulness exercises throughout the day to maintain a calm state of mind.
Establish a classroom culture based on respect, kindness and empathy. Monkey see, monkey do, after all! If you model calm and positive behavior, it’ll encourage your little learners to do the same. By reinforcing positive messages and creating an inclusive atmosphere – supported by cohesive calm classroom decor – you’ll be well on your way to achieving a calm classroom vibe.
A calm classroom is more than just a quiet space: it’s an environment that nurtures your little learners’ emotional and academic growth. By reducing stress, enhancing focus, and promoting positive behavior, a peaceful classroom sets the stage for student success. Implementing the above strategies in your calm classroom setup is sure to improve the learning experience for all your students—with the added bonus of keeping you relaxed, too!

Downloaded it and thought it would look like the picture. All the name tags have a heart on them and I can't get rid of it. This is not what the photo shows. Very disappointing.

I couldn't be happier! This bundle is absolutly gorgeous and it made my classroom a very special place for me and my students! They all loved it. The dots and the pastel colours are lovely. I'm very pleased with everything!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am thrilled you love them as much as I do! :)
For $2 which was a huge steal. It’s vibrant looking and set it up as offering many templates to choose from. Amazing package deal that was well thought out in the process
Thank you so much for your support ♥
The Canva links were a total bonus for me. It made working on my projects from different devices (while on summer break) a breeze. Super cute designs, too! The only feedback I have is re: schedule cards. I ended up making my own because the pre-made ones were a bit young for the class I was prepping (3rd grade.) The clip art seemed very geared toward K/1. That's okay, though!
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled you loved the Canva links and designs. Really appreciate your feedback on the schedule cards, we’ll keep this in mind for future updates so they can suit a wider range of grades.
Now my binders like so cute and organized
